Blackfriars Granulator Blades for the plastics and rubber industries

Blackfriars granulators operate on a shear-cut principle: rotating rotor knives pass against fixed stator bed knives (dead knives) in a scissors-like action. Both blade types must be specified and maintained together for optimum performance.

Rotor Knives (Fly Knives)

Mounted directly onto the rotating drum, rotor knives perform the primary cutting action. Most Blackfriars granulator models run with three rows of rotor knives. Profiles include straight blades for general-purpose applications, hooked or curved blades for film and fibre materials, and toothed profiles for fine-grinding applications.

Stator Bed Knives (Dead Knives)

Fixed to the cutting chamber housing, bed knives work in conjunction with the rotor knives to produce a clean shear cut. Blackfriars machines typically use two adjustable dead knife rows. The adjustable design maintains a consistent knife gap and keeps the rotor diameter constant throughout the blade’s useful life, even as material is progressively removed by regrinding.
