Emergency Earthquake Appeal

Last week, one of our apprentices Ugurcan, held a fundraiser for the Emergency Earthquake Appeal. What we didn’t know was that his parents are originally from the region and that his grandparents still live there and have been severely affected by the disaster, their home being completely destroyed by the earthquakes.

Said Ugurcan, “I’m Turkish, but born in the UK. I wanted to help not just my relatives still living in the region, but all the other families who have lost their homes and are now facing horrendous conditions in freezing temperatures, living in cars, tiny tents or in very basic temporary accommodation. Not only have they lost their homes, but also their access to food and clothing. It breaks my heart to see what’s happening, as I spent most of my summers there growing up, visiting my grandparents. It makes me so grateful for what I now have, so I started this fundraiser to try and make just a small difference.”

With one of our own team being so closely linked with the region, it really does drive home the situation.

If you’d like to make a contribution to Ugurcan’s fundraiser, a Just Giving page has been set up linking to the Islamic Relief, Emergency Earthquake Appeal.

Thank you to everyone who’s contributed so far.
