Granulator Knives and Screens for the Plastic Recycling Industry

Fernite of Sheffield manufactures precision granulator knives and granulator screens for plastic recycling and size reduction operations across the UK and internationally.

While granulator knives reduce the size of output materials, a granulator screen controls the final size of the granulated material. Having a granulator screen below the cutting chamber ensures that only the correct-sized particles pass through.

We manufacture Granulator Knives and Granulator Screens.
Aslo, we provide knife and blade sharpening service.

Plastic Granulator Knives

The performance of a granulator machine depends heavily on the quality and condition of its knives. Knife tip profile, cutting angle, rotor speed, and blade sharpness all directly influence the quality of the granulated output and the overall efficiency of your operation.

Knife tip profile determines how cleanly the material is sheared, how well the tip resists impact, and how long the blade lasts before requiring sharpening or replacement.
Cutting angle affects the precision of the shearing action, the ability to maintain a consistent cutting gap across the rotor width, energy consumption, and noise levels during operation.

We supply granulator knives compatible with all major machine brands, including Alpine, Blackfriars, CMB, Cumberland, Herbold, Rapid, Tria, and Zerma. If your machine is not listed, we can manufacture to your drawing or sample blade.

Granulator Screen Oprions

A granulator screen controls the final particle size of the granulated material. Positioned below the cutting chamber, it ensures only correctly sized particles pass through — making it a critical component for consistent output quality.

We manufacture the main types of granulator screens:

Round Hole Screens are the most common type, delivering consistent particle size. Suitable for general-purpose granulation of plastics, pharmaceuticals, and similar materials.

Slotted Hole Screens are designed for long or fibrous materials such as plastic film and fibre. The slot design reduces clogging and allows for faster throughput.

Perforated Screens with Raised Edges offer enhanced precision and wear resistance, commonly used in pharmaceutical and fine powder applications.

Hole sizes are available from very fine openings suitable for powder applications through to large openings for coarse recycling — just let us know the output particle size you need.

We also manufacture flat screens for standard granulators, curved screens for high-output machines that require greater surface area, and segmented screens for applications where easier maintenance is a priority.

All granulator screens can be manufactured from different materials:

  • Carbon Steel – economical and suitable for less abrasive materials.
  • Stainless Steel – corrosion-resistant, so preferred in food, pharmaceutical, or corrosive environments.
  • Hardened or Coated Steel – applicable for highly abrasive materials such as glass-filled plastics.

Granulator Knife Sharpening Service

Even the best granulator knives need regular sharpening to maintain cutting performance. Signs that your knives need attention include material tearing rather than cutting cleanly, uneven granule size, reduced throughput, and increased machine noise.

Fernite offers a professional granulator knife sharpening service with regular collection routes throughout the UK, so your production downtime is kept to a minimum.
